About The Mix

Super Bad Beats is a side project of the electronic music artist Soulsonic. Calm and easy hip–hop with some jazzy keys could stand as a Monday’s alarm clock, if you are not afraid to be late to work. Also it could be the Samurai Champloo’s soundtrack (some tracks from there are already in). It’s like romantic view of some fresh blood shining in the sunset on the sword stuck between dead samurais ribs.
Crossbreading between hip–hop and samurais is very natural. Hip–hop emerged as reckless party music, so sooner or later rappers must have found a way to a more disciplined perception.
Samurai mythology feels like at home in hip–hop culture, cause it is based on power of thought and some sort of violence. And although the latter is often stressed in music, there is another – kind of mystic/romantic view of samurais. That is the image, the beatmaker Super Bad Beats wants to stick us with.
The playlist contains lots of artists’ own beats, all of which are called “freestyle”, as if he was saying “do not judge me, I come from the other scene”. Also we can hear the major inspirations: Nujabes (romantic samurai image representative) and hell-lot of Gangstarr (Guru naturally represents samurai-like lifestyle in urban areas). It may sound as a tribute – as these artists passed away recently, but also it intertwines with the viewpoint of samurais, as they have very own approach to death.
So go and find romance in all those things considered to be brutal in western societies.
